Barcode Scanner Configuration and Troubleshooting

Overview:  Retail IQ’s customers use a variety of brands and models of barcode scanners.  However there is ONE feature that we have to make sure is turned on/configured for it to work well in Retail Pro 9 or Prism.

Required Feature/Configuration:  The barcode scanner must be able to apply a Carriage Return/Hit Enter Key automatically after it scans a barcode.  Many scanners do this right out of the box, but not all.

Common Issues:

·         Customer gets a new barcode scanner and it does not automatically apply a Carriage Return automatically by default

Resolution:  You must find the User Guide or Programming Guide that came with the scanner, and assist the customer in getting this feature programmed in.  This entails searching Google for the information, or having them go through the documentation that came with the scanner

·         A wireless scanner will not scan – it won’t even project the beam/laser

o   Resolutions:

§  Have the customer try to charge the scanner on another base – sometimes the connection isn’t good so the scanner does not charge.  Even wiping down the area where the charging connections are can help.

§  If the issue doesn’t seem to be with the base, the internal battery could have gone out and won’t keep a charge anymore.  In this case:

·         The customer can shop for a replacement battery compatible for that scanner (less expensive option and more eco-friendly)

·         The customer can buy a new barcode scanner
